<\/a><\/p>\nThis guide explains how to remove Disk 1<\/strong> from a Windows software RAID 1 (mirrored volume), format the released disk space, and create a separate D:<\/strong> drive.<\/p>\n Important:<\/strong> This guide applies to software RAID 1 configured in Windows Disk Management using dynamic disks.<\/p>\n Warning:<\/strong> Removing the mirror will delete the mirrored copy from the selected disk. Before proceeding, make sure that Disk 0<\/strong> contains the working copy of your operating system and data.<\/p>\n Log in to the Windows server using an administrator account.<\/p>\n Press Win + R<\/strong>, enter:<\/p>\n and click OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n You can also right-click the Start<\/strong> button and select Disk Management<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In Disk Management<\/strong>, locate the mirrored volume.<\/p>\n The same volume should be displayed on both Disk 0<\/strong> and Disk 1<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Before continuing, make sure that Disk 1<\/strong> is the disk you want to remove from the mirror.<\/p>\n Right-click the mirrored volume and select:<\/p>\n Remove Mirror…<\/strong><\/p>\n Do not select “Break Mirrored Volume”.<\/strong><\/p>\n In the new window, select Disk 1<\/strong> and click Remove Mirror<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Confirm the operation.<\/p>\n Windows will keep the original volume on Disk 0<\/strong> and remove the mirrored copy from Disk 1<\/strong>.<\/p>\n After the operation is complete, the space on Disk 1<\/strong> should appear as Unallocated<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Right-click the Unallocated<\/strong> space on Disk 1<\/strong> and select:<\/p>\n New Simple Volume…<\/strong><\/p>\n The New Simple Volume Wizard<\/strong> will open.<\/p>\n Click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n If you want to use the entire disk, leave the maximum available volume size selected and click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Select:<\/p>\n Assign the following drive letter<\/strong><\/p>\n and choose:<\/p>\n D:<\/strong><\/p>\n Click Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n If the drive letter D:<\/strong> is already in use, you will need to free it first or select another available drive letter.<\/p>\n Select:<\/p>\n Format this volume with the following settings<\/strong><\/p>\n Use the following settings:<\/p>\n Click Next<\/strong> and then Finish<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Windows will format the disk and create the new volume.<\/p>\n Open File Explorer \u2192 This PC<\/strong>.<\/p>\n You should now see the new drive:<\/p>\n Data (D:)<\/strong><\/p>\n The disk is now ready to use as a separate storage drive.<\/p>\n After completing these steps:<\/p>\n Important:<\/strong> After RAID 1 mirroring is disabled, the data on Disk 0<\/strong> is no longer protected by a mirrored copy.
